Rachael's Christmas Leftover Pasties
RECIPE
RACHAEL'S CHRISTMAS LEFTOVER PASTIES
Serves: 2-4
Prep Time: 15 Minutes
Cook Time: 20 Minutes
INGREDIENTS
Christmas Leftovers e.g. turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets, vegetables etc*
1 tbsp mustard (wholegrain or honey)
1 readymade puff pastry sheet
1 egg
Leftover gravy or butter
METHOD
- Preheat the oven to 200°C/ fan 180°C/ gas mark 6.
- Chop any Christmas dinner leftovers into bite size pieces and put into a bowl. Add the mustard and mix well.
- Roll out the pastry and cut into rounds. You can make these as large or as small as you like.
- Place pastry rounds onto a baking tray lined with greaseproof paper and egg wash the pastry edges.
- Spoon the mixture onto one side of the pastry, leaving at least 2cm of pastry all the way round.
- Fold the empty half of the pastry over the mixture and firmly press the edges of the pastry together, sealing with a fork. Trim away any excess pastry and brush with beaten egg. Make a couple of little holes in the top of the pastry to let the steam escape during cooking.
- Cook in the oven for 20-25 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and the filling is piping hot.
CHEF'S TIP
You can make pasties of any size, just adjust the cooking time so your pasty is golden and cooked through. They can be frozen for a later date.
*Leftovers should be cooled and then stored in a refrigerator as soon as possible.
