METHOD
1. Lay one fabric piece right side down on your table, with the shortest edge nearest to you.
2. Put a few dots of glue on one side of one piece of card and lay it on the fabric with the longest side of the card nearest to you. Stick it to the fabric so that there is approximately 1cm of the fabric at the bottom nearest to you. Leave equal fabric margins left and right. Don’t use too much glue, this is to lightly hold the card in place while you fold over the edges.
3. Fold the bottom edge of the fabric over the card (like you’re creating a hem) and glue in place.
4. Fold the left side of the fabric over the left side of the card and glue in place. Repeat with the right side.
5. Fold the top edge of the fabric over by 1cm and glue in place to make a hem.
6. You’ll be left with your card secured on three sides with the fabric. The top of the fabric will have a 1cm hem and there will be a section of fabric that is not attached to the card (this section will become the handles of the cracker).

7. Turn the fabric around so that you now have the shortest edge of the card facing you and the loose section of fabric to the right (remember the loose section will become the handles of the cracker). Roll the fabric covered card (with the card on the inside) to form a tube, overlapping by approximately 1cm and glue in place. This is one half of your cracker, it will form the outermost section of the cracker. You can use a rolling pin to roll the fabric covered card around to help shape it.

8. Repeat steps 1 to 6 to form the second cracker section.
7. You’ll then need to roll this section into a slightly smaller tube so that it fits all the way snugly into the first fabric tube. Roll it and test the fit before glueing in place. This creates the cracker shape that can then be pulled apart!

10. Add your elastic bands to gather in the loose fabric on either half to form the cracker handles, then use ribbons, leaves and dried fruit to decorate.
11. Fill the smaller tube of the cracker with your favourite treats and gifts and then slide into the larger tube.
12. Your cracker is now ready and can be used year after year.
