Artisan chutney and preserves from Hawkshead Relish

Back in 1999, Mark and Maria Whitehead were busy running a small Lakeland café, right in the centre of the charming village of Hawkshead. Unable to find any quality accompaniments to complement their delicious homemade meals, Mark and Maria’s thoughts quickly turned to making their own.

They soon began making a small range of relishes, pickles and preserves which customers would enjoy so much, that they’d often ask to buy a jar to take home. Realising just how many jars they were selling it was at this point that Hawkshead Relish began.

To this day, all of their products remain handmade and the husband and wife duo remain passionate about producing only the very best. “Flavour is the key ingredient which is achieved by using quality produce, if it doesn’t add flavour or texture, it doesn’t go in the jar’’ says Maria.

Now in their 20th year, with numerous awards under their belt and joint MBE’s for their services to the food industry in Cumbria, Mark and Maria produce some of the very best
relishes, pickles and preserves in the world, from a small 16th century barn just outside the historic town of Hawkshead.
