Preparation & Use
Cooking Instructions: Suitable for home freezing. If freezing, freeze on day of purchase and use within 1 month. To thaw, remove from freezer and place in refrigerator for approximately 24 hours. Do not re-freeze once thawed. Cooking Instruction. All appliances vary these are guidelines only. A pop up timer is also provided as an indicator of correct cooking temperature. Once the timer pops up, check that the juices run clear. OVEN Remove packaging and the neck and giblet pack from the neck flap or main body cavity. Allow the bird to reach room temperature before cooking, this should take approximately 2 hours. Pre-heat oven to 180°C / Fan 160°C / Gas Mark 4. Place the bird in a roasting tray. Melt approximately 100g butter and rub over the outside of the bird, then season with salt and pepper. For best results pour 200ml cold water in the roasting tray around the bird. Loosely cover the bird with foil and place in the middle of the oven for 20 minutes per kg plus an extra 70 minutes for birds weighing 3 - 3.99kg or an extra 90 minutes for birds weighing over 4 kg. Periodically spoon the juices from the bottom of the tray to baste and return to the oven. For the last hour of cooking remove the foil to allow the bird to brown. Pierce the thickest part of the thigh with a skewer to check the juices run clear. If further cooking is required return to the oven and check after 15 minutes. Once cooked remove from the oven and leave to stand for 30 minutes before carving.
