AWARD WINNING PIES FROM ALTHAMS BUTCHERS

With over 160 years of family tradition and excellence, it’s no surprise that Booths work closely with Altham’s given the similarities; two businesses centred around strong family values and honest hard work.

This fifth-generation business is run by James and Rick Altham, the great, great, grandsons of founder Thomas Altham, a local farmer - who opened a local family butcher shop in Poulton-le-Sands, Morecambe in 1856.

Altham’s are now one of the oldest independent family owned butchers in the country, specialising in premium meat and meat-based products, such as their award-winning pies. Located on the edge of the Lake District, bordering both Lancashire and Yorkshire counties, they’ve access to some of the best cattle and lamb in the UK.

“It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come from being just a small family butcher’s shop. It’s a credit to each generation – we’ve all left our own individual mark on the development and growth of the business which is something that will only continue” says James.

Champions of provenance, it comes as no surprise that each product is traditionally cooked by talented, experienced chefs using locally sourced ingredients. They continue to take great care in selecting and preparing all their products using time-honoured methods. Althams acclaimed Blue Cow Pie is made using locally sourced Garstang Blue Cheese, and their Steak and Ale Pie uses Lancaster Black Beer.
